Will Chatgpt Take Our Jobs

Since its release in November of last year, OpenAI's ChatGPT has been used for various tasks, including composing cover letters, creating children's books, and even assisting students in cheating on their essays. The chatbot's capabilities may be more advanced than initially thought. In a theoretical scenario, Google found that if ChatGPT were to interview for a position, the company would hire it as an entry-level coder.

Amazon employees who have used ChatGPT remarked that it does a "very good job" of addressing customer support inquiries, is "great" at creating training documents, and excels at answering questions related to company strategy.

Companies are beginning to take notice of these advancements. Both IBM and the British telecommunications company BT Group emphasized the role of AI when announcing job losses, indicating that many of these positions may not return.

While a 2013 University of Oxford study suggested that AI could eliminate 47% of US occupations over the next 20 years, that estimate may not be accurate. A recent report from Goldman Sachs indicates that generative AI technologies could impact 300 million full-time jobs worldwide, leading to a "significant disruption" in the labor market.

However, Anu Madgavkar, a partner at the McKinsey Global Institute, told Insider that human judgment is essential to enhance these technologies and mitigate issues of inaccuracy and bias. Users of ChatGPT have found that the bot can provide false information, give incorrect answers to coding questions, and make basic math errors.

"We need to view these tools as productivity enhancers rather than complete replacements," Madgavkar stated.

Insider consulted experts and conducted research to compile a list of jobs that are most at risk of being replaced by AI.
